Line Art Metal Wall Art
Single-line faces, figures and silhouettes. Line art metal wall art is the most minimal thing we cut — one continuous contour, the whole image carried by what is left out. On a wall it behaves like a pencil drawing that happens to be made of steel, and the shadow doubles the line.
What is in this collection
Faces. The abstract woman’s face is the piece most often ordered from this collection. Faces with flowers is the softer version and reads well as a pair.
Figures. Modern woman and her silhouette are the two most-hung; elegant woman is the tallest and suits a narrow wall. The striped dress and the striped abstract hold more pattern and carry a larger wall. Legs, the abstract woman and the human figure are the sparest.
Quieter pieces. A gentleman in a chair and zen balance — the second is the one people put in a study or a treatment room.
Where line art works
Bedrooms, dressing rooms, hallways and anywhere the wall is plain. Line art needs empty space around it the way a drawing needs a margin; hung between two other things it stops reading. A single piece at 50–70 cm on an otherwise bare wall does more than three small pieces in a row.
These are also the designs that work as a pair. Two figures facing each other, hung 20–30 cm apart, is the arrangement people ask us about most. Order the same size and the same finish — a pair in two finishes reads as a mistake.
Sizing
Line art is the exception to the two-thirds rule. Because there is so little material, a line piece reads smaller than a dense one of the same dimensions. Over a console or a dressing table, 50–60 cm. On a bedroom wall with nothing beneath it, 70–80 cm. Below 40 cm a single-line face becomes an ornament rather than a picture — which is fine if that is what you want, but it is not the same object. The size guide has the measurements.
Which finish
Black is the obvious choice and the one that looks most like ink. Gold is the one that changes the piece most — a gold line on a pale wall reads as jewellery rather than drawing, and it is the finish most often chosen for bedrooms. White on a dark or a deep-coloured wall is the quietest combination we make. Bronze and silver both work, bronze warmer, silver cooler. See all five on the same design in the finish guide.
How these are made
Drawn in the studio, cut from sheet steel on our own laser, deburred by hand, powder-coated to your finish. Cut to order in 3–5 business days, 5–7 in transit, shipped free worldwide with duties included to the US, EU and UK. Hanging hardware and a paper template are in the box — see how to hang metal wall art.
A note specific to this collection: single-line pieces have long thin sections, and they are cut from the same gauge steel as everything else. They are not fragile, but they are not a sheet either — support the piece along its length when you lift it out of the box rather than holding it by one end.
